“Under Tension” OHTL Conductors StringingFor stringing of the conductors to the OHTLs the JSC “Ural Power Engineering Construction Company ” employs modern erection technology of “under tension” with the help of machines and equipment by “Tesmec S.p.A”, Italy.

The technology allows to string conductors without contact with earth and greatly simplifies the crossings of roads, engineering services and other OHTLs, allows to avoid damage to the conductors and reduces damages to the lands during stringing.

Brief Description of “Under Tension” Technology of OHTL Conductors Stringing

  1. Stringing pulleys with special galvanized steel antitwisting braided rope as a pilot line are suspended from the towers.
  2. On each side of the section being strung puller and tensioner machines by Tesmec with built-in dynamometers are respectively positioned. The machines ARB 600 and FRB 600 allow to string up to 4 conductors simultaneously.
  3. The pilot line connects to the counterweighted head board with the help of swivel joint. Conductors of one phase are connected to the other side of the head board with the help of sock joints. Pilot line may be increased to the required length by means of connecting standard pieces of pilot line with sock joints.
  4. The conductors are strung along the length of the section by the puller machine which winds the pilot line to its drums. The puller ARB 600 allows to inch two pilot lines simultaneously. Speed and force of the inching are chosen in accordance with conductor characteristics, OHTL route and design. Tensioner operator adjusts the constant braking force to allow the correct sagging of the conductors.
  5. After the conductor in the drum ends, its end is temporary anchored and connected to the conductor from the next one.
  6. After stringing of the section of the OHTL the conductors are put into permanent tension clamps on the tension tower at the tensioner machine side of the section.
  7. Final sagging and aligning of the conductors is performed with the help of the puller machine and the conductors are put to the tension clamps at the puller machine side of the section.
  8. Then the conductor on the suspension towers is transferred from pulleys to the suspension clamps, and all other fittings are erected.
